Chicago Trip Day 4: Got Newlyweds?

21 10 2008

To cap off the wedding weekend, the bride’s family hosted a brunch/birthday party the morning after the wedding. It was one last opportunity to chat with some of our newfound friends and congratulate the newlyweds before we all went our separate ways.

Chicago Trip Day 3: Symi Tov and Justin Tov

6 10 2008

Note: This will be a little out of order chronologically; I wanted to feature the wedding reception first…

Immediately after the wedding, I was still fairly sated from lunch (pictured after the jump), so I didn’t take in so many of the hors d’ouerves during cocktail hour. I definitely ended up having more than a few of the gazpacho shots gazpacho miniatures.

The reception dinner was served buffet-style with a number of stations featuring food from around the world (It’s not often one will eat goulash and sushi in the same sitting)! Unfortunately, the only shots I remembered to take from the main courses were not of the food at all… they were some of the decorative items on the table…

Flowers and Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

Within the centerpiece were chocolate-covered strawberries…Honestly… I had to resist eating the centerpiece!

The wedding cake, other desserts and lunch from earlier in the day after the jump…

State Fair…

10 09 2008

Apologies for the hiatus… I was on vacation and had very limited computer access. Food posts from my travels will most certainly be forthcoming.

Shortly before Dan and I headed out of town, we went to the Maryland State Fair in Timonium, MD. Although both of us like amusement park rides, neither of us are really fans of fair rides. More often than not, we visit the vendor, craft, and competition booths, and we’ll also indulge in some of the fairground specialties (these really should only be eaten once-a-year). This year, we split a deep-fried Twinkie and an order of deep-fried Oreos.

Well… the deep-fried Twinkie looked like a corn dog… only wider and covered in powdered sugar…

And the Oreos? We weren’t quite sure to expect from them, but they sure looked good…

Let’s get a look inside of these bad boys, shall we…?

Conference Food? Good Eats!

30 05 2008

I just finished volunteering at an intellectual property symposium hosted locally. The days were long, but in exchange for my work, I got to sit in on many of the sessions. The organization that I was volunteering for also made sure I was fed at no extra cost to me. I essentially was participating in the same breakfasts and lunches provided to the participants, a perk which was a pleasant surprise (It also didn’t hurt that the venue hosting the symposium was run by Marriott; I ate pretty well ;) ).
