Goin’ Bananas…

Banana Bread Slice

A couple of weeks ago, I baked a double-batch of banana bread. One batch was to be sold at a bake sale on campus, and the other was just for us (though the second loaf eventually was also taken to a Halloween party so that friends could help finish it off). It also was an instance of “baking as stress relief” for me…

The recipe is a family recipe, so behind the jump it goes:

Chicago Trip Day 3: Symi Tov and Justin Tov

6 10 2008

Note: This will be a little out of order chronologically; I wanted to feature the wedding reception first…

Immediately after the wedding, I was still fairly sated from lunch (pictured after the jump), so I didn’t take in so many of the hors d’ouerves during cocktail hour. I definitely ended up having more than a few of the gazpacho shots gazpacho miniatures.

The reception dinner was served buffet-style with a number of stations featuring food from around the world (It’s not often one will eat goulash and sushi in the same sitting)! Unfortunately, the only shots I remembered to take from the main courses were not of the food at all… they were some of the decorative items on the table…

Tea Candles...

Flowers and Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

Within the centerpiece were chocolate-covered strawberries…Honestly… I had to resist eating the centerpiece!

A Fitting Sendoff…

1 08 2008

In a matter of hours, my immediate supervisor will no longer be my immediate supervisor (He’s moving on to greener pastures). A few days ago, we threw him a send-off party in honor of his years of service in a number of departments at my workplace. My department — true to form — made sure there was plenty of food to go around. :)

Here’s a piece of the cake, courtesy of the Watergate Pastry:

A Chocoholic’s Dream…

29 07 2008

Within one of the academic buildings at work is an establishment called the Uptown, which has many decadent treats for sale. Unfortunately, I inhaled the eclair that I had from them a few weeks ago before ever taking a picture of it. I made sure to savor the chocolate truffle I had last week.

This was pretty much “death by chocolate” in one little package: fudgy chocolate layers, moist chocolate cake, and chocolate sprinkles… Couldn’t find an ounce that wasn’t chocolate, and given I am a major-league chocoholic, it had me in a great mood for hours.

Thank goodness I make a habit of working out… ;-)

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

16 05 2008

I often cook or bake when I’m stressed, so when I needed a major-league study break last week, I baked a few batches of oatmeal raisin cookies using this recipe.

Talk about comfort food… these guys kept on giving! They stayed chewy and soft the entire week (even when enclosed in a Ziploc bag)!
